KUALA LUMPUR: Two policemen have been arrested in connection with a theft case involving losses amounting to RM300,000.

City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed in a statement that an investigation had been initiated following a police report lodged regarding the incident.

"The officers, aged 44 and 34, who hold the ranks of inspector and corporal, were arrested, and a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was submitted on Feb 23. It was granted for one day," he said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine, with subsequent offences punishable by imprisonment, a fine, or whipping.

Rusdi also urged the public not to speculate on the matter to avoid hindering the investigation.

"The police are taking this incident very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice," he said.
