BARCELONA — Atletico Madrid and Barcelona played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Tuesday.

Atletico surged to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes through Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann, but Barcelona quickly fought back with goals from Pedri Gonzalez, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Robert Lewandowski.

Atletico's Marcos Llorente pulled one back before Alexander Sorloth scored a dramatic equalizer in the 93rd minute, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the second leg on April 2.

Pedri reflected on the 4-2 lead they gave up, urging his team to be more cautious in the future. Atletico’s Diego Simeone praised his squad's resilience and competitive spirit, especially after they were forced to fight back.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was pleased with his team's performance despite the result, stating they dominated the match but allowed Atletico too many chances.

Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad in the other semi-final first leg on Wednesday.
