The Penang state government has extended the full exemption on overdue land and parcel tax penalties until May 31, 2025. This follows an initial announcement in December 2024. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow hopes this extension will encourage landowners and parcel owners to settle their dues. There are currently 86,337 accounts with outstanding taxes, totaling RM13.9 million in arrears, with the Northeast District having the highest number of defaulters. The exemption applies automatically to all taxpayers, except those on installment plans or who have already paid their penalties. Since the announcement, tax collections have risen by 25%, and penalty waivers surged by 46%. Payments can be made at district land offices or online via the PgLAND portal.
