KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Customs Department has seized more than 3.2 million sticks of smuggled cigarettes, with a total value, including taxes, amounting to RM2.9 million, during a raid on a house in Kampung Peringat on Feb 19.
During the 11.30pm operation, an enforcement team from the Kota Baru Enforcement Division also confiscated a Toyota Vellfire.
State Customs director Wan Jamal Abdul Salam Wan Long said during the raid, over 3.1 million sticks of cigarettes, equivalent to 320 cartons, were found stored in the house.

"The total number of cigarettes seized exceeds 3.2 million sticks, with an estimated value of RM2.9 million, including taxes and the confiscated vehicle's worth."
He said the syndicate's modus operandi involved using rented houses as storage locations for smuggled cigarettes.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
"People are urged to assist the department in combating smuggling crimes, particularly involving cigarettes, liquor, fireworks, drugs, vehicles and other contraband, and are advised against engaging in such activities.
