KUALA LUMPUR: The government will launch a mobile app to tackle the smuggling and leakages of subsidised cooking oil, announced Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali in the Dewan Rakyat. The app will record buyer data to ensure the oil is sold to its target market. Currently, a pilot project is underway, and it will be integrated into the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation System (eCOSS). The app aims to address issues like unauthorised sales and smuggling by enabling enforcement officers to act quickly. Armizan explained that while eCOSS tracks the supply chain, the app will fill gaps at the retail level to prevent fraud and smuggling.
