KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said mandating a 2% Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution for foreign workers will help the government with record-keeping and protect local workers' interests. The move will also allow foreign workers to withdraw their savings after employment ends. Anwar noted that nearly 70 countries require similar contributions and that the 2% rate is not a burden. He added that the proposal, announced in Budget 2025, aims to ensure fair treatment for all workers, regardless of nationality, in line with international standards like ILO's Convention 102.
