JOHOR BARU: A woman was killed in an accident involving a bus on Jalan Permas Utara here early today (March 9).
The woman, believed to be in her 30s and homeless, was attempting to cross the road near an abandoned petrol station at 4am when she was struck by the bus.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said that the 50-year-old bus driver was travelling from Taman Permas Jaya towards Bakar Batu when the woman is believed to have suddenly stepped onto the road.
"The driver was unable to avoid her in time and collided with her. She was pronounced dead at the scene," he said in a statement today (March 9).
Police have yet to identify the deceased and are urging anyone with missing family members to contact the traffic unit or the investigating officer, Inspector Nur Fathihah Ismail, at 010-4171762.
