PUTRAJAYA: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was surprised when RM42 million was transferred into his personal bank account in 2015, the High Court heard.

Datuk Dr Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman, former managing director of Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd (IPSB), testified that Najib called him in July 2015, asking if he had made three remittances. Dr Shamsul recalled Najib reacting with "My God" upon learning of the transfers.

The funds, totaling RM42 million, came in three installments: RM5 million and RM27 million in December 2014, and RM10 million in February 2015. Dr Shamsul followed instructions from Ung Su Ling and Dennis See of Yayasan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (YR1M), assuming the money was for corporate social responsibility (CSR) purposes.

Dr Shamsul also attempted to verify the account details but was unable to obtain information from Ung or See. Najib is facing charges related to using his position for financial gain from 1MDB funds. The trial continues on March 11.
