KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd, operator of the Kelana Jaya LRT line, has attributed the smoke and explosion-like sounds at the Abdullah Hukum station last night to technical issues with one of its trains. The incident occurred at 10:43 pm when Train 84 malfunctioned at the station, causing smoke, loud noises, and panic among passengers.
Rapid Rail stated that the issue was caused by a fault in the train's power collector assembly. The situation was quickly managed, with a transit officer instructing passengers to disembark and alternative trains arranged to continue their journeys. Several videos of the incident, showing passengers evacuating and hearing loud bangs, have circulated on social media, raising concerns about passenger safety.
Fortunately, no one was injured. The affected train was sent to the maintenance depot for further inspection, and Rapid Rail has intensified train inspections to prevent future issues. They also plan more frequent monitoring during peak hours for added safety. No police reports have been filed, according to Brickfields police.
