Homes affected by the Putra Heights pipeline gas fire, with damage levels below 20 per cent

SUBANG JAYA: Homes affected by the Putra Heights pipeline gas fire, with damage levels below 20 per cent, have been deemed safe for occupancy for now.

Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said that the majority of the houses cleared for occupancy are located more than 150 metres from the accident site.

He said inspections conducted by the department, Subang Jaya City Council, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and electrical wiring contractors found that these homes sustained only minor damage, such as broken window panes and slight heat marks on roofs and ceilings.

"With the approval of the state disaster management committee, residents of homes with minor or no damage are allowed to return.

"However, houses that suffered major damage remain unsuitable for occupancy until further structural integrity assessments and necessary repairs are carried out," he said when contacted today.

Hisham added that the inspection covered key structural components, including walls, floors, roofs, and building frameworks, as well as electrical wiring systems in the affected homes.

He said there is no need for new certificates of completion and compliance (CCC) for homes in this category.

"A new certificate would only be necessary if there were significant structural changes, such as rebuilding," he said.
