KUALA LUMPUR: Penang threw a spanner into KL City's top-five plan while Negri Sembilan finally ended their winless run in an evening of late drama in the Super League.

At City Stadium, Penang edged KL City 1-0 with a goal from Alif Anuar Ikmalrizal in the 27th minute.

The win moved Penang to 10th in the standings with 26 points, just two behind sixth-place KL.

In Kota Baru, the battle between two basement teams saw Negri walk away with a 2-1 win against Kelantan Darul Naim.

Takumi Sasaki opened the scoring for Negri in the 42nd minute, but teammate Nasrullah Haniff Johan scored an own goal in the 76th.

Nonetheless, Nasrullah redeemed himself by nodding home the winner in the 93rd minute.
