BATU PAHAT: A 37-year-old e-hailing delivery rider is in critical condition after a car travelling against traffic on Jalan Kluang near the Sri Gading Industrial Area crashed into him last night.
Mohd Hairi Jaafar, a father of two, was on his way home when the incident occurred at about 9.30pm.
He suffered multiple fractures and is currently warded at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI), where he underwent surgery early this morning.
His wife, Noor Saihah Ab Waib, 34, said received a call saying her husband had been in a 'bad accident'.
"I wanted to rush to the scene, but they told me to head straight to the hospital," she said when contacted.
Hairi, who holds a full-time job during the day, was working a part-time food delivery shift when the incident happened.
"He had just finished work. Surgery began at 3.40am and only ended at 9am.
"His left arm and right leg were fractured. He also sustained injuries to his pelvis. The doctors have inserted rods into his limbs," she said.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the accident.
The 54-year-old Proton Waja driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before veering into oncoming traffic.
He is currently unconscious and being treated in the intensive care unit at HSNI.
