GEORGE TOWN: The High Court here today upheld the coroner's court's open verdict in the death of Australian Annapuranee Jenkins, whose body was found on June 24, 2020 at a construction site close to where she was last seen alive.Judge Rofiah Mohamad said the court had no choice but to maintain the coroner's court's open verdict decision based on the evidence before her. She, however, said the Deputy Public Prosecutor had the discretion under the Criminal Procedure Code to direct the magistrate to conduct further probe to determine Jenkins' actual cause of death. "The site where part of Annapuranee's bone fragments were found, in itself, was unlikely that there was no involvement of another person."As such, we will leave it to the prosecutor to give direction for further probe into Jenkins' actual cause of death," she said today.

Jenkins' son, Gregory Steven Jenkins had applied for a revision application of the coroner's court's open verdict back in May 2023.
