UN warns Gaza healthcare is collapsing as Israel blocks fuel.
The UN has warned of a collapsing healthcare system in Gaza due to Israel's continued denial of access to crucial fuel and aid.UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric highlighted the extremely limited access to essential healthcare, particularly for vulnerable groups, with over 150,000 women at risk of serious health complications. He noted the rapidly deteriorating fuel situation, with remaining reserves prioritized for critical systems. Despite repeated attempts, including one denied by Israeli authorities in Rafah today, the UN and its partners are routinely blocked from retrieving fuel from inaccessible areas. This situation is exacerbated by the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza since March 18, following a ceasefire. Over 52,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed since October 2023. Israel faces scrutiny from the International Criminal Court and a genocide case at the International Court of Justice regarding its actions in Gaza.
