SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lawrence Wong secured a strong mandate as Singaporeans handed the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) a landslide victory, winning 65.57% of the vote and all but 10 seats in the 97-seat parliament. Facing his first major electoral test, Wong urged support amid global economic uncertainty triggered by US tariffs. The results, he said, reflect voters’ trust and confidence in the government. Though challenged by a revitalized opposition, PAP's popularity rose compared to 2020, reinforcing its decades-long grip on power. Wong, praised for his Covid-19 leadership, succeeded Lee Hsien Loong last year.
