KUALA LUMPUR — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government acknowledges Reporters Without Borders’ (RSF) concerns over Malaysia’s press freedom but remains firm on laws addressing misinformation and sensitive 3R issues (race, religion, royalty). While Malaysia rose 19 spots to 88th in RSF’s index, it now ranks in the “problematic” category. Fahmi emphasized the need to balance media freedom with public responsibility and highlighted steps like the proposed Malaysian Media Council to improve media structure and journalist welfare.
