LONDON — Thousands gathered outside Buckingham Palace despite the cold to honour the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the end of WWII. With Churchill’s words echoing through the Mall, emotional tributes poured in, including from descendants of wartime survivors and those reflecting on the significance of peace. The four-day celebration began with a military parade, a fly-past by the Red Arrows, and appearances by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and NATO troops. The commemoration will conclude with a national two-minute silence and a service at Westminster Abbey.
