National women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah are considering turning professional, with a decision expected at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Annual General Meeting on May 10, 2025. However, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has advised caution, highlighting the challenges of going independent.Minister Yeoh emphasized the importance of considering the entire support ecosystem, not just sponsorships, when making such a decision. She noted that while the National Sports Council (NSC) provides grants for Olympic qualifiers, the amount is limited. Once players become professionals, they are responsible for securing their own funding, including coaching expenses. Therefore, she urged Pearly and Thinaah to carefully evaluate their options before leaving BAM.Rumors about their potential departure have been circulating, especially since they have not signed new contracts with BAM. Both BAM and the players have remained silent on the matter, awaiting the upcoming AGM for a resolution.
