The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) issued RM250 fines to five individuals last month for illegally feeding pigeons in public areas, as stated in a Facebook post. These individuals face further legal action if they persist in this behavior or fail to pay the fine, which violates Section 47(1) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act. MBPP highlighted that despite repeated warnings and signs in pigeon hotspots like Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, the ongoing feeding complicates their efforts to manage the bird population. In a recent operation, the council captured 818 pigeons and destroyed 36 crow nests.
