PUTRAJAYA — Drug use in Malaysia fell by 10.5% in the first quarter of 2024, with Kelantan showing the biggest decline, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution. The drop is largely due to enforcement actions targeting illegal border paths, or "jalan tikus," especially along Sungai Golok. The crackdown significantly reduced drug entry and cross-border movement.
From 121,170 drug users last year, the number dropped to 108,409 this year. Kelantan, Pahang, Kedah, and Perlis remain key focus areas. Authorities aim to further reduce cases to 60,000. The ministry is also using predictive data models to map high-risk areas and improve targeted interventions.
