In a groundbreaking procedure, surgeons at UCLA successfully performed the world’s first human bladder transplant on May 4. The recipient, 41-year-old Oscar Larrainzar, also received a kidney during the eight-hour surgery. Larrainzar, a father of four, previously lost most of his bladder and both kidneys to cancer and had spent seven years on dialysis. The milestone offers new hope to patients with serious bladder disorders.
