NEW DELHI — Following deadly clashes in Kashmir and New Delhi’s launch of “Operation Sindoor,” Indian businesses quickly capitalized on rising nationalism by selling military-themed merchandise. Entrepreneurs rolled out t-shirts and tote bags featuring official logos and military quotes, with one shirt quoting an air force officer: “Our job is to hit the target, not to count the body bags.” The operation, named after the symbolic red powder worn by Hindu married women, was launched after an April 22 attack blamed on Pakistan that killed 26 civilians. Though a ceasefire was reached by May 10, patriotic fervor and merch sales continue to soar across India.
