GENEVA — The World Health Assembly voted to allow flags of non-member observer states to be flown at WHO headquarters, paving the way for the Palestinian flag to be displayed alongside member states.
The resolution passed with 95 votes in favor, 4 against (Israel, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany), and 27 abstentions. The flags will be placed after WHO members in alphabetical order, without granting membership status.
The proposal, backed by 20 countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Algeria, and Turkiye, cited UN General Assembly Resolution 70/15 as legal support.
