KOTA BHARU — Kelantan police confirmed that kidnappers demanded 80kg of gold, worth around RM40 million, as ransom from a jewellery shop owner in Tumpat—higher than earlier reports of 30kg. The 44-year-old victim revealed the suspects had been blackmailing him for protection money over a long period. Fearful for his family’s safety, he had previously paid millions in cash and jewellery to the extortionists.
