Following recent clashes where both sides deployed drones, India and Pakistan are in a drone arms race. India plans to invest significantly in its domestic drone industry, potentially spending $470 million on UAVs in the next 12-24 months, a threefold increase. Pakistan is focusing on collaboration with China and Turkey, locally assembling YIHA-III drones. During the May fighting, Pakistan used Turkish-origin YIHA-III and Asisguard Songar drones, as well as the domestically produced Shahpar-II UAV, but many were reportedly countered by India's Cold War-era anti-aircraft guns retrofitted with modern technology. India also deployed Israeli HAROP, Polish WARMATE, and domestically-produced UAVs, some for precision attacks. Both countries see drone strikes as a way to exert military pressure with lower risks.
