BARCELONA — Oscar Piastri claimed victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, leading a McLaren one-two ahead of teammate Lando Norris. The win marked Piastri’s fifth in nine races, putting him 10 points clear in the championship standings.
Max Verstappen endured a chaotic race, clashing with George Russell twice after a late safety car restart and receiving a 10-second penalty plus three penalty points—bringing him just one point away from a race ban. He finished 10th after initially crossing the line in fifth.
Charles Leclerc secured third for Ferrari, with Russell fourth and Nico Hulkenberg a surprise fifth for Sauber. Lewis Hamilton ended up sixth after being passed late on. Home favorite Fernando Alonso scored his first points of the season in ninth.
The safety car, caused by rookie Kimi Antonelli’s crash, reshuffled the order and sealed McLaren’s dominant weekend, as Verstappen struggled on hard tyres in the closing laps.
