The High Court will hear Muhyiddin Yassin’s application on August 28 to refer legal questions to the Federal Court regarding the validity of certain Sedition Act provisions. The former prime minister is charged with making seditious remarks during the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan, allegedly claiming he was not invited by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong to be sworn in as prime minister despite having the support of 115 MPs after the 2022 general election. If convicted, Muhyiddin faces up to three years in jail or a RM5,000 fine. The court has directed both parties to file submissions by August 14. The case was initially filed in Gua Musang but was transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court in November 2023.
