Carlos Alcaraz made an incredible comeback from two sets down to defeat Jannik Sinner in a historic French Open final, saving three championship points to win 4-6, 6-7(4/7), 6-4, 7-6(7/3), 7-6(10/2) after nearly five and a half hours. This victory gave the 22-year-old his fifth Grand Slam title and ended Sinner’s 20-match winning streak in majors.
Alcaraz, unbeaten in Grand Slam finals, said his belief and determination made the difference. He became the first man since Djokovic in 2019 to win a Slam after saving match points.
Sinner, aiming for a third straight major title, was heartbroken but vowed to stay positive despite the tough loss.
The match was the first Grand Slam final between two men born in the 2000s. Alcaraz now leads their rivalry 8-4.
After a seesaw battle with multiple breaks and intense tie-breaks, Alcaraz held his nerve in the final tie-break to clinch the title, calling it the most exciting match of his career and the longest Roland Garros final ever.
