KUALA LUMPUR — Following the fatal crash that killed 15 UPSI students in Gerik, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has issued a show-cause letter to the bus operator involved.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is also conducting a full safety audit under the Road Transport Act and Land Public Transport Act. He pledged firm action once investigations conclude, stressing that every life lost is a national loss.
Loke highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, including plans for mandatory speed limiters on heavy vehicles — with tamper-proof measures under review.
He urged that the tragedy serve as a wake-up call for stricter enforcement and extended condolences to the victims' families, thanking the Ministry of Higher Education and UPSI for their support.
The crash occurred between 12.30 am and 1 am when a chartered bus from Jertih to Tanjung Malim collided with a Perodua Alza, injuring 33 others including drivers and passengers.
