KUALA LUMPUR — A viral dashcam video showing the moments leading up to the fatal UPSI bus crash near Tasik Banding has gripped the nation, as Malaysians mourn the loss of 15 students.

The 40-second clip shows the bus overtaking another vehicle before veering off the road. Authorities have received the footage and will be recording a statement from its owner as part of the investigation.

The crash, which occurred early Sunday on the East-West Highway, also injured 33 people including the bus driver, his assistant, and four individuals in a Perodua Alza.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed that the bus operator is under investigation by APAD and JPJ, with firm action promised once probes are complete. Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak also called for urgent safety reforms to prevent similar tragedies.

Tour agency and safety bodies have echoed the call for stricter enforcement, while the Terengganu government pledged to cover funeral costs and offer support to grieving families.

Thirteen victims were transported from Ipoh to Jertih last night, with two more from Gerik. All were buried in their hometowns after funeral prayers at Masjid Hadhari. Over 160 UPSI students also traveled to Jertih to pay their final respects.
