The Netherlands maintained their perfect start to the 2026 European World Cup qualifiers with a dominant 8-0 win over Malta in Groningen. Memphis Depay scored twice early, reaching 50 international goals to equal Robin van Persie as the Dutch all-time top scorer. Virgil van Dijk added a stunning long-range goal, while Xavi Simons, Donyell Malen (2), Noa Lang, and Micky van de Ven sealed the rout.

Meanwhile, Poland stumbled to a 2-1 defeat in Helsinki against Finland, missing talisman Robert Lewandowski, who recently withdrew from national duty under current coach Michal Probierz. Goals from Joel Pohjanpalo and Benjamin Kallman gave Finland the edge, while Jakub Kiwior’s strike wasn’t enough. The match was briefly halted due to a medical emergency in the crowd but later resumed.

Finland now lead Group G with seven points, one ahead of the Dutch, who have two games in hand. Poland sit third with six.

Elsewhere, Aleksandar Mitrovic netted a hat-trick as Serbia beat Andorra 3-0 to move to third in Group K. Austria defeated San Marino 4-0, climbing to second in Group H behind Bosnia and Herzegovina. Romania beat Cyprus 2-0 but slipped to third after Austria’s back-to-back wins.
