The Club Employees Union of Peninsular Malaysia (CEUPM) staged a peaceful protest over the Penang Turf Club’s (PTC) alleged refusal to negotiate retrenchment terms with its workers after the club's closure on May 31. Union Secretary-General Rudy Rusly said the move violates the Industrial Relations Act 1967, which guarantees workers the right to union representation in employment and retrenchment matters. He stressed that retrenchments must involve fair negotiations to protect workers’ welfare and ensure proper compensation. The union urged PTC to return to the table and respect workers’ rights.
