The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a local council finance director in Melaka for allegedly misusing RM50 million of council funds to invest in shares through his wife, who works at a bank. The man, in his 50s, was detained when he came to give a statement at the MACC office. He is suspected of appointing his wife as the investment agent between 2020 and 2023, using public and trust funds without proper approval. Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest, and the suspect will be brought to the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court for remand. The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
