Sea search underway for missing fisherman after early morning fire guts boat near Kuala Kurau

A fisherman is feared drowned after a boat carrying three fishermen caught fire around 8.6 nautical miles off Tanjung Piandang, Kuala Kurau at about 4am yesterday. According to MMEA Kuala Kurau Zone director, Maritime Commander Mohd Hairil Othman, all three jumped into the sea, but only two were rescued. The missing man, 33-year-old boat owner Cheah Chai Pun, has yet to be found. The fire, which started in the engine, was extinguished after the boat was towed ashore. A search and rescue operation has been launched with help from various agencies and the local fishing community. The public is urged to share any information via 011-3525 9919 or 05-727 9919.
