BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping assured New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon that there are no deep-rooted conflicts between their countries, as Luxon visits Beijing amid regional tensions.
Xi emphasised that China and New Zealand have long enjoyed strong ties, with no historical grievances or major disputes. He called for deeper cooperation in technology, climate action, infrastructure, and cultural exchanges, urging both nations to respect differences and focus on common ground.
The visit comes after New Zealand’s close partner, the Cook Islands, sparked unease by signing several strategic agreements with China, including on deep-sea mining.
