A tragic stampede at Algiers' Stade du 5 Juillet claimed three lives and injured 81 during Mouloudia Club d’Alger’s (MCA) title celebration, authorities confirmed Sunday.

The incident occurred after a security barrier collapsed, causing fans to fall from the upper stands during MCA’s 0-0 draw with NC Magra. Initially, officials reported one death and 11 injuries, but the toll later rose.

MCA had just secured their second consecutive championship and ninth overall, but the joyous occasion quickly turned to mourning. In response, the national football league cancelled the official trophy ceremony.
