JAKARTA — Indonesia’s weather agency has revised its 2025 forecast, predicting a shorter dry season due to unusually high rainfall across much of the country. The shift is expected to benefit rice production, with output projected to rise nearly 15% to 21.76 million metric tonnes from January to July.

Only 19% of the country has entered the dry season as of early June, said agency chief Dwikorita Karnawati. Areas like Java, Bali, and parts of Sumatra and Nusa Tenggara are likely to see continued rainfall, while some regions in Sumatra and Borneo will experience drier conditions first.

Authorities are urging local governments to adapt plans to account for the changing climate, with heavy rain earlier this year already causing major floods in Jakarta.
