PUTRAJAYA — The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will become a fully independent statutory body on August 1, merging with Mavcom and operating without government funding or pay structure.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the move, approved on June 11, will save the government RM1.5 to RM2 billion over 10 years, making CAAM financially and administratively self-sufficient.
