PUTRAJAYA — Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has called for stronger, united action among Asean nations to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime, including scams and ransomware.
Speaking at the 25th Asean Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC), he stressed that cyber threats are a present danger requiring swift technological adaptation, including the responsible use of AI. However, he said tech alone isn’t enough — trust, information-sharing, and joint capacity-building are key to an effective response.
He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to regional cooperation, highlighting unity and decisive action as essential to ensure digital security, peace, and stability. He also echoed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent call for Asean to be both principled and proactive in addressing modern challenges.
