KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has unveiled the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (PTKL40), highlighting public transport—not private cars—as the core of the city’s future development.
Backed by projects like the MRT, the plan aims for 70% public transport usage by 2040, supported by cycling routes, micromobility, and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Anwar also announced that new housing projects must include solar power, pushing KL towards sustainability.
Mayor Maimunah Mohd Sharif added that PTKL40 includes real-time data tracking through the Urban Digital Twin KL, 305,000 affordable homes, 20 sqm of open space per resident, and a 254km Green Connector to link parks. The plan prioritises smart, human-centric, and eco-friendly urban growth.
