MOSCOW — A cargo ship carrying around 3,000 vehicles, including 800 electric cars, sank in the Pacific Ocean after burning for nearly three weeks, according to a report by Sputnik via the New York Post.
The Liberian-flagged Morning Midas caught fire on June 3 while en route from Yantai, China, to Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico. All 22 crew members were safely evacuated.
The blaze reportedly started on the deck holding the electric vehicles, raising fresh safety concerns over EV battery transport.
The ship eventually sank in international waters at a depth of around 4,800 metres. Cleanup and monitoring vessels remain on site as a precaution against pollution.
