TAIPEI — Taiwan will release updated air-raid guidance next week, drawing lessons from Ukraine and Israel to prepare civilians for a potential Chinese military strike, officials told Reuters.
The new instructions include safety tips for people unable to reach shelters in time — such as hiding behind walls and staying low with mouths slightly open. Officials note that many in high-rises may struggle to reach shelters within three minutes.
Taiwan will hold civil defence drills alongside its major Han Kuang military exercise in July. Over 4,600 shelters in Taipei alone can hold up to 12 million people.
China, which claims Taiwan as its territory, has increased military pressure in recent years. Taiwan continues to reject Beijing’s sovereignty claims.
