Malaysian police arrested 36 Bangladeshi nationals linked to a radical militant movement based on Islamic State (IS) ideology, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The arrests, carried out in three phases since April 24 in Selangor and Johor, targeted individuals involved in terrorism-related activities.
Five suspects have been charged under the Penal Code’s terrorism provisions, 15 face deportation, and 16 remain under investigation. Authorities uncovered recruitment cells, fundraising efforts, and plots to topple the government in their home country.
Saifuddin emphasized that Malaysia will not tolerate extremist elements and praised the police for their swift and professional response, affirming continued efforts to strengthen national security and counter-terrorism measures.
