KUALA LUMPUR: It was a wake-up call for the national women's team following their 14-5 loss to Singapore Development team in the semi-finals of the Johor Sevens at Johor Rugby Stadium today.

The Malaysian team, prepararing for the Thailand Sea Games in December, beat Hanelang Angels 41-0 in the quarter-finals, and Bedok Skylla 49-0, Vixens Melaka 22-0 and SJ26 Ladies 3-0 in group matches.

National coach Faiz Samsukhidir said his players need to focus on fitness and get more high quality matches.

"We lost to a team that prepared more thoroughly, who have been training non-stop since last year. We train on and off due to lack of funds."
