SINGAPORE — A fault in the Power Scada monitoring and control system likely triggered the nearly three-hour Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) disruption on July 3, SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said.
Lam explained the fault affected the Emergency Trip System, cutting traction power. Preliminary findings point to issues within the Power Scada system, part of an ongoing BPLRT Power Renewal Project due in 2026.
The July 3 outage halted trains at all stations from 8.50am to 11.30am, with five trains stranded between stations. SMRT staff evacuated passengers and bypassed the ETS to restore power.
SMRT and the Land Transport Authority are reviewing the system’s design to prevent future incidents. Lam apologised for the disruption and thanked commuters for their patience.
