TAWAU — Malaysia has placed 13th in the 2024 Global Peace Index (GPI), down from 10th last year, though its overall score of 1.469 remains unchanged, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He explained that some countries, particularly in Scandinavia, improved their scores in key indicators like peacekeeping, pushing Malaysia down despite maintaining its performance. Compared to 163 countries, Malaysia is still on the right track, he added.
Saifuddin said the ministry is working to further improve Malaysia’s ranking by attracting more tourists, including organising security visits for diplomats to Sabah’s east coast, which has already helped boost arrivals.
