Three Men Plead Not Guilty to Causing Grievous Hurt with Rubber Hose

Sham Chee Fei (33), Tommy Voo Tze Hau (27), and M Nageswaran (32) pleaded not guilty today in the Magistrate's Court to charges of causing grievous hurt to a 26-year-old man using a rubber hose last month. They are alleged to be part of a local extortion syndicate.

The trio, along with another suspect still at large, allegedly injured the victim with a rubber hose between 7 PM on May 22 and 6 AM on May 23, at a house on Jalan Lagenda 34, Taman Lagenda Putra. They were charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read with Section 34, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping, or any two of these punishments.

Magistrate R Salini set bail at RM5,000 each with one surety, despite the prosecution's request for RM15,000. Defense counsels cited the accused's unstable incomes and elderly parents as reasons for lower bail. The next mention date is August 27 for document submission.

Sham Chee Fei Faces Additional Charges for Document Possession

In the same court, Sham Chee Fei also faced three additional charges. He pleaded not guilty to possessing a 32-year-old man's identity card and unlawfully possessing two international passports not under his name. These acts allegedly occurred at Senai International Airport on June 20 at 9:45 AM.

Possession of someone else's identity card is an offense under Regulation 25(1)(0) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, punishable by up to three years in prison, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both. Unlawful passport possession violates Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966, carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

The court granted Sham bail of RM7,000 with one surety for these three charges.
