MACC Busts RM950m Scrap Metal Smuggling Syndicate
The MACC has uncovered a massive scrap metal smuggling syndicate operating across five states, resulting in an estimated RM950 million tax loss. Raids under "Op Metal" targeted 19 locations in Penang, Selangor, Kedah, Johor, and Negeri Sembilan, involving homes, offices, and scrap facilities. The syndicates allegedly bribed enforcement officers to evade a 15% export tax by misdeclaring exports. The operation, led by MACC with Customs, LHDN, and Bank Negara, is ongoing under anti-money laundering laws. Arrests and further details are expected as investigations continue.
