Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai led the charge as three Malaysian mixed doubles pairs booked their spots in the second round of the 2025 Japan Open in Tokyo.

The husband-and-wife duo breezed past Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat 21-15, 21-10 in just 30 minutes and will next face Denmark’s Mads Vestergaard-Christine Busch.

Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also impressed, defeating Canada’s Kevin Lee-Josephine Wu 21-15, 21-19, and await either Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Pasaribu or China’s Guo Xin Wa-Chen Fang Hui.

Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin battled through a tough three-game match against the United States’ Presley Smith-Jennie Gain, winning 21-19, 12-21, 21-16, but now face a daunting clash with China’s second seeds Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin.

Meanwhile, Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien fell to Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami-Sayaka Hobara 21-9, 21-8.
