Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki today issued an apology to the family of Teoh Beng Hock, the political aide who died on the MACC's Selangor office premises 16 years ago.
Despite recent police investigations classifying the case as "No Further Action" due to insufficient evidence for charges, Azam emphasized the MACC's serious view of the tragedy and its impact on Teoh's family, MACC personnel, and the nation.
He expressed his deepest sympathies and offered an apology for their suffering. While the Malaysian government previously paid RM600,000 in compensation and RM60,000 in legal costs in 2015 as a full and final settlement, Azam stated the MACC is prepared to provide an additional goodwill contribution to support Teoh's child's welfare and educational needs, though the amount was not disclosed.
